A photograph capturing an old vehicle in the main street of Drouin c1924.
On the left of this photograph shows the end of Porter Bros Store. Continuing east towards Warragul are the Commercial Bank of Australia Limited, Russell's coach factory and garage, Miss E Vaughan's newsagency and The Family Hotel.
At this time, The Family Hotel was owned by James H Porter, known as Jim. This can be seen on the sign on the side of the hotel.
Mr Porter was only in Drouin for three years, purchasing the hotel in 1923 and putting it back on the market in March 1925.
He had some health issues and spent a few months in hospital after leaving Drouin.
Eliza Susan Vaughan was involved in at least three businesses in Drouin over a period of 36 years. Her first was a dress and fancy goods store.
Miss Vaughan then worked in the printing office of her brother-in-law Thomas Brown, who was the publisher of The Gippsland Independent. Finally, she ran the newsagency from 1914 to 1931.
